To preach, to proclaim the good tidings, to tell the good news. The presenting of Jesus Christ so that men will accept Him as their Saviour from the guilt and power of sin, and declare Him Lord as they seek to follow Him in their daily lives.
Evangelism is seen as a two-fold Ministry at St Faiths Anglican Church, Plumstead. Inwardly, we possess a strong evangelical influence amongst our leadership placing them in a confident and fairly comfortable position to preach the Gospel and make disciples of all nations as our Lord Jesus Christ commands.
The important factor that we are cognisant of, is that we can only embark on drawing others closer to seek salvation through the grace our Lord offers by teaching and showing them the way to Jesus. In order for us to be the very vessels God calls us to be, we first need to be saturated in the word of God, truly have an understanding of how to lead God’s people in full knowing that we hold a responsibility to be Christ-like examples in the way we conduct ourselves.
Evangelism in itself embraces different fragments in bringing the Good News to the people. Factors concerning your audience i.e. age, social dynamics, environment etc. are to be considered when missioning within our immediate church, surrounding communities, and in the various outreach programmes.
The mission weeks held in September 2010 and 2012 formed amongst the main highlights achieved in the life of the Parish. All praise and glory goes to God! Currently, the evangelism team is very active and dedicated in the support they provide to the social responsibility team that makes a weekly visit to Steurhof Station where soup and bread is provided and accompanying them, is the evangelism team that offers the spiritual elements of sharing God’s word and prayer.
Many are hesitant as they believe that one must have the gift of the gab to evangelise however evangelising goes beyond addressing a crowd of people. Reaching out to an individual by sharing the word of God constitutes the same and brings the same amount of glory to God. This portfolio invites anyone who is prepared to share their Jesus passion with anyone who needs it.
1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
